Act! the CRM (customer relationship management software) was made in 1986 in Dallas, Texas by two men by the name of Mike Muhney and Pat Sullivan. The original name was Activity Control Technology after that it was renamed to Automated Contact Tracking. ACT was the last name change and the acronym stuck. In 1993 the company by the name of Contact Software International (which the name of the company had changed back in 1993), sold ACT to SalesLogix. The SalesLogix company was renamed to Interact Commerce in 1999.
In 2001 the Sage Group (also know as Sage) purchased Interact Commerce.
In 2004 the software was renamed again as ACT! by the Sage group, from there is was called Sage ACT!. Later in 2012 the company gave the ACT! software distribution in New Zealand and Australia over to a Melbourne company for two years. This was due to the change of ownership to a company named Swiftpage, this ownership move was made in 2013.
Swiftpage for over 10 years was a partner of Sage and with their commitment and love of the software was what lead the company to invest and develop the product line of what ACT! is today.
